SuChin Pak  00:10

Hey folks, welcome to another episode of ADD TO CART. Now this is a show about the things we buy and what they say about who we are. I am SuChin Pak.

Kulap Vilaysack  00:20

And I’m Kulap Vilaysack.

SuChin Pak  00:22

We’ve got two guests that we adore. So let’s get into it.

Kulap Vilaysack  00:29

Today, we have two guests to knock your socks off. And if you’re not wearing socks, knock your flip flops off whatever is on your feet, get them off. One of them is a comedian writer, an actor whose work has been featured in The New York Comedy Central, CNN and more. The other is also a comedian and also a single mom in New York City, bitches to gather that too. Are the hosts of the podcast Feeling Asian please welcome Brian Park and Youngmi Mayer.

SuChin Pak  01:02

Into the ring guys, into the ring.

Brian Park  01:05

Wow, that was an incredible intro.

SuChin Pak  01:09

That’s what she does.

Brian Park  01:12

That was insane.

Kulap Vilaysack  01:13

It is how you should be heralded into every room. You’re going to get coffee, timeout, take a beat and let me intro you.

Brian Park  01:25

I know that was awesome. I’m recording this from my room and I was like, where’s the fog coming from? This is a real where where’s the glitter in the crackers or whatever those are called?

SuChin Pak  01:38

One day when we’re in person. All of these things could be reality.

Youngmi Mayer  01:43

Brian and I are gonna wrestle each other now. Going down.

Brian Park  01:52

I can see, I know I would lose if we got into wrestling.

Youngmi Mayer  01:55

I would definitely play the villain character.

Kulap Vilaysack  01:58

You’d be the heel, Youngmi. That’s good. I would be the heel as well. Su’s got a good heel attitude.

SuChin Pak  02:08

Wait, what’s a heel? Oh heel’s the bad guy. Is this a wrestling term? Or like a Marvel term?

Kulap Vilaysack  02:16

It’s specifically a wrestling term.

SuChin Pak  02:19

Got it. Got it. Got it. You said I would be the heel?

Kulap Vilaysack  02:23

Well, you do have a you know you’ve got an acerbic personality. Cutting.

SuChin Pak  02:31

True, true true. If I could wrestle just sitting on the stool and flap my feet around and not actually move any other body part I be down for it.

Youngmi Mayer  02:41

It sounds like your move in a video game. It’s like if we choose SuChin, the character just sit up it comes with a little stool and then your feet just flap around like when you smash all the buttons together. That’s like your move.

SuChin Pak  02:56

My feet are very thin and bony. Trust me these are weapons that should be handled very softly as […] knows.

Kulap Vilaysack  03:05

She’s like a bird. We’re talking three of your fingers is the width of her foot.

Youngmi Mayer  03:10

I’m so jealous. I feel like those, those like are like what Asian people always want in a foot.

Kulap Vilaysack  03:22

Mine is just flat and fleshy.

SuChin Pak  03:28

Also weapons. Welcome. Welcome to the feet show. We’re gonna go top of the charts. And we’re gonna talk about feet.

Brian Park  03:36

Let’s get into it.

Youngmi Mayer  03:37

Yeah, there’s a listener out getting, getting very a little too excited.

Brian Park  03:41

I promise, Ivan, audio engineer, please edit out the heavy breathing that is coming from my mic.

SuChin Pak  03:51

Brian, all truths shall be revealed here, right?

Kulap Vilaysack  03:55

We love to start off when we have honored guests that come through is to ask you both what type of consumer are you? What type of shopper are you? What do you think Brian?

Brian Park  04:12

I would say that I am a mix of two terrible traits. So first off, I don’t like to browse and peruse. Like I when I go to a store. I know exactly what I want. Which is like, I want this type of pan. I want this type of shirt. I want this cut. I’ve done tons of research and done tons of due diligence on it like I’m in and then out. Sniper style. But then when I return home and try it on without fail, I would say 95% of the time I return it. It is bonkers. Like I’m sober. And I would say that is my drug of choice is just tying things Making sure I can return it and then returning it I hate it about myself. I’m so indecisive. So I’m decisive but also equal parts indecisive.

Kulap Vilaysack  05:09

And you don’t want to try on in store.

Brian Park  05:12

No, I hate doing that. I do not do that.

SuChin Pak  05:14

My brother and I have gotten into, I think I did actually physically push him once in a J Crew. I’m not proud of it. And it wasn’t like, you know, it wasn’t to cause harm but it was to really stop the madness. And Brian, my brother had his eyes on a […] a J Crew. It was Christmas time. He was visiting me in LA we had been at that point living right next to the grove so it was just a stone’s throw away. And he bought and re bought and returned the same P coat in small and medium so many times I had to push him, I had to physically push him I was so mad about the whole trip was ruined because he was obsessing over whether or not the P coat fit right and I just lost it, and you shoved them.

Brian Park  05:19

I am exactly like that like even down to leather sneakers. I’m very embarrassed to admit this okay, right so with a leather sneakers, leather is you know it has a quality about it you don’t know what kind of the cow you’re getting. So sometimes they.. […] But sometimes it’ll crease differently. And I know over time leather will like crease. But from the get if I noticed that it creases asymmetrically, I will ask the store person to be like, hey, can you bring out a fresh pair? And they’ll be like, what are you, what are you talking about? I’m like, please, like, just do this for me. I can’t sleep.

Kulap Vilaysack  07:08

Leather is meant to be worn and distressed. And actually when it has those lines, it gives a character.

Brian Park  07:17

Like an iPhone? Like an iPhone, you know, you care for it when you first buy it. But then once you get that first scratch It all goes out the window, you don’t care. I’m like that with leather. Like shoes.

Youngmi Mayer  07:32

Brian, what’s going on what’s going on with returning? I don’t get it, like you can just because you don’t think you want it anymore? It’s not like it doesn’t fit or something?

Brian Park  07:41

I’m too indecisive. Like I’d find things are coming. I don’t know if 10 hours of research, I’ll return it. I have an illness.

Youngmi Mayer  07:51

Wow, that was interesting. I think Brian’s the heel, we’ve discovered Can you imagine, working in retail you know, Brian’s the heel for the people that work in retail. They’re listening to this right now. Like, oh, fuck that guy.

SuChin Pak  08:08

The leather crease guy.

Kulap Vilaysack  08:15

All right, well, let’s rock paper, scissors. This is what I love. This is guys, we’re diving through this. It’s intimacy though. Which brings us to Youngmi.

Youngmi Mayer  08:33

Okay, so my shopping style is I think shopping for me is like, I think my personality is that I use everything. Like it’s a drug. And so shopping is I think I have one of those personality styles where I’m like, I’m gonna go buy. Like, I’m just gonna, who like I’m gonna, like spend too much money on this and it gives me a little rush. But then it’s like I forget. So like I’ll it’s weird because like all like go buy something and splurge and like get all excited about it. And then feel really guilty, like, like a drug. But then I’ll like forget to buy underwear for like 15 years, so I’ll have like the same like, I have the same like three pairs of underwear. And then I get really weirdly, like, thrifty when it comes to certain things. So like, you know, those like five underwear for 20 deals. That seems like it’s chair defensive. Like that seems too expensive to me. But then I’ll buy like a, you know, like I’ll buy like, I don’t know, like a $300 like, I don’t even know like a one earring that’s $300 like one day. Do you know what I mean?

Kulap Vilaysack  09:35

But it’s also like what you value?

SuChin Pak  09:38

I call that balance. I call it a well-balanced type. She saves on the underwear. And she buys one $300 earring.

Youngmi Mayer  09:50

And then I’m like putting on a tattered like pair of like granny, like the elastics just exploded off the weight like doesn’t even really fit on my body anymore. It’s just kind of like, like an idea of underwear.

Brian Park  10:05

Your underwear sitting in your drawer. Just like please. There’s Youngmi buying another earring again.

Kulap Vilaysack  10:13

Out of my misery.

Youngmi Mayer  10:16

I also do that thing where I buy stuff at like 3AM, when I’m in bed, like just looking online, and then I forget about it. And then it comes yeah, but then I feel good about that. Because I went to the store the other day, it was like a house home goods store. And the person working there was like a bunch of bags like by the front counter. And she was like, people like well, orders will come in at like 1AM because people like to order in bed. And then they’ll order it for pickup and then just never pick it up. So she had bags back there. Because people do that so frequently. So we all do that, I guess we buy stuff and then we forget.

Brian Park  10:56

That’s a heel right there. That’s a heel right there. Meanwhile, what’s the crime and caring a little bit too much about..

Youngmi Mayer  11:09

The quality of the craftsmanship. It’s over for you, Brian. Everyone working retail right now is like man, that guy Brian really..

Kulap Vilaysack  11:17

He cares too much. He’s so anti-crease.

SuChin Pak  11:26

That’s his movement.

Kulap Vilaysack  11:28

And I agree.

Brian Park  11:29

Oh gosh. No, but I got that Youngmi, just ordering things online. Because that’s the joy in life. You know, just waiting for your packages to arrive. And then you die one day.

Kulap Vilaysack  11:50

Let’s get into some of your carts, shall we? Brian let’s talk about these pleated pants that you’re going to immediately return.

Brian Park  12:00

Those have stayed.  I’m scared.

Kulap Vilaysack  12:05

Don’t be afraid. Brian tell us about these Castle Atlantik. It’s a brand I’m not familiar with the Tengger. These are European pleated pants.

SuChin Pak  12:19

Oh, very casa blanca.

Brian Park  12:24

Yeah, so my TikTok algorithm is just a lot of dudes who are into fashion. And one of these guys recommended these pants sounds like I frickin hate these TikTok craters. But I then end up buying whatever they recommend. And so these pants are extremely high waisted double pleated pants.

SuChin Pak  12:45

I think I need these pants. I like their pants.

Brian Park  12:51

And so apparently the founder modeled them off for his grandfather who fought in you know, I don’t know, like the Moroccan army or something. And I don’t know, I’m in my pants era. I used to wear a lot of jeans. And nowadays I’m rockin big pants. And they remind me a lot of my dad because my dad wore a lot of pleated pants. And there’s something to them. Father knows best. Very classy, very comfortable. And he’s got a lot of room in the midsection. It’s great. I’m a big fan. So that’s my new look these days is big pleated pants with the shirt tucked into that.

Kulap Vilaysack  13:29

And what are we wearing for shoes? Are we as the model is are we in like a loafer? No socks?

Brian Park  13:37

I’m rocking canvas sneakers with them. But if they’re not canvas sneakers, I’m rocking some leather Oxford’s that you best believe that those creases are symmetrical.

SuChin Pak  13:46

Are we white? Are we beige? Are we black?

Brian Park  13:54

I have a pair of the green ones and the white ones. So green for the fall, white for the summer vibe.

Youngmi Mayer  14:01

I never buy, I know that people do this where they like something and they buy multiple colors of the same thing. I don’t do that.

Brian Park  14:10

I’m all about that.

Youngmi Mayer 14:12

That seems to like a wealthy person. Like I feel like I’m stuck in this like when I was a poor kid and like, like you would only get one thing you know, like the idea of buying multiple versions of one thing seems like really rich to me. But it’s like, why wouldn’t you buy two pairs of pants that look good on you and just not by other pants that..

Brian Park  14:33

You see, I feel that the common narrative in society is always like, Well, you already have one of these. So get this different one, this different type of shoe. And so now that I’m a fully-fledged adult and I can make choices for myself, I see my choice to buy multiples of the same thing is like a rejection of that, like a big like fuck you. I’m my own person. I like what I like, I basically want to have a uniform. That’s my goal.

Kulap Vilaysack  15:02

I have my friend Jason basically wears a white J Crew button down like oxford shirt and jeans every day and then maybe depending on like the weather he’s wearing a vest over that or sweater over that but that is pretty much every day and for him I know it’s because he feels like we are collectively making so many decisions. He just like that to be done.

SuChin Pak  15:37

Brian, your habits of highly successful effective people. Now Youngmi, I wonder if this this sort of pattern of buying? Also, is it your style? Because you love like you said, the journey of the shopping in the looking for it? Almost even more than the thing that you get? You know what I mean? So like buying multiples of something, because I can see both? I am a little bit of both. Buying multiples is something that knocks out the whole shopping experience. Because then you’re like, well, I’ve got 16 pairs of pants that fit fine. Why do I need another pair of pants? But the kind of looking for the pants, right? Is part of the thrill.

Youngmi Mayer  16:21

Yeah, it’s like that reminds me of that viral tweet where it was like, I’ll never meal prep because like the chaos of like, searching for the next meal every day and thinking about the next meal is like why? Why I live, it’s like yeah, exactly. That’s like the feeling.

SuChin Pak  16:39

Wait, Kulap and Brian, where do you stand on meal prepping just as a philosophy about life? Because I think that’s a great analogy.

Kulap Vilaysack  16:47

You know, I keep trying to do it and maintain it. What happens for me, which does relate to this is I just get bored. I’m like, I want to have, you know, something else. And usually like, and also take so much time if you want that variation. So then if I’m making like the same stew, I’m like, I’m sick of this fucking stew. This is just leftovers.

SuChin Pak  16:51

What about you, Brian?

Brian Park  17:20

I go through phases. So right now, I just am not organized enough. Or like I don’t keep myself accountable enough to meal prep in advance. But I would say last year for the entire year, I ate chicken salad for lunch, like every day. And Youngmi will know this about me. I am a big proponent of delayed gratification almost to a fault to the point where I just like never experienced pleasure. I’ll just push aside, the pleasure aspect. But like the boring lunch meal prep. I only do it for lunch. So that gives me agency to be like, oh, I can splurge a little bit for dinner. I’m gonna treat myself to like a fancy tasty dinner.

SuChin Pak  18:02

And then did you, was dinner a party in your mouth? Or was it also delayed?

Brian Park  18:09

Most of the time. Most of the time.

SuChin Pak  18:12

I think you know, the just even the thought of meal prep like every cell in my body rejects it. I can’t even do like a dinner reservation, gives me anxiety. Because I’m like so you’re telling me like right now I have to think about what time I’ll be hungry and what I want to eat three days from now. Put the handcuffs on me. Yeah. Take me to the nearest jail cell and just leave me there to rot like it feels so claustrophobic to me. I’ve just always been that way.

Youngmi Mayer  18:50

So you’re just saying like you just don’t really care about what you eat. Am I understanding?

SuChin Pak  18:54

I do care about what I eat the plan not to the point where I have to plan it, if it comes of course like I love a good meal and when I stumble upon a good meal in the moment that I want it that’s like Nirvana right and I’m always searching that chaos of like I’m hungry but I want something neutrally but also, I don’t want it to be too brothy and I want a little bit of pork fat but not too much. You know what I mean? Like all be on the hunt for that until I get that but until I get that I’m eating like two day old baguettes with you know cheese from the deli, like I would rather do that versus think about okay, a Friday at seven o’clock. Okay. Yeah, sure. […]

Brian Park  19:42

No, thank you. Exactly. I know we all are based in LA but I’m sure it’s similar over there. In the times we live in now. There’s just so much content for everything. And even with food. It’s so rare that I’ll just stumble upon and find a gym. Like everything that’s good has been rises to the top. Everything’s been discovered. Don’t even try to make a reservation without calling like two months in for a date like two months out. It’s ridiculous. I hate the planning aspects of going to any restaurant.

SuChin Pak  20:16

That’s why you eat off hours. That’s why I’m like dinner at four.

Kulap Vilaysack  20:21

I am going to come in counterpoint, love a reservation. I don’t know what I’m going to order prior. I like that. It’s limited to one menu. And I’ll see how I feel when I sit to the menu. But when I travel, the least that I’ll do in terms of planning is like dinner reservations, because we know we’ll end up there.

SuChin Pak  20:45

That’s like your guiding NorthStar. Like everything else falls around it.

Youngmi Mayer  20:51

I do like making reservations for traveling because I feel like yeah, like it’s like one of those things where if I’m gonna go somewhere, I want to see what’s like, the best restaurant there. You know what I mean?

Kulap Vilaysack  21:05

Representative of that area. Or, you know, somebody put it on social media.

Youngmi Mayer  21:12

But it is annoying. The only reason I really liked reservations is because living in New York City like you know, like, Friday trying to eat something and there’s like, I will not, but your reservation, SuChin is my waiting in line. I will never again ever wait in line for food. I can’t do it.

SuChin Pak  21:31

Brunch on a weekend. I haven’t seen that probably in two decades.

Youngmi Mayer  21:35

I’m making brunch reservations.

SuChin Pak  21:38

Waiting in line for a donut. I’m like, you’re all lying to yourself.

Youngmi Mayer 21:50

You’re lying to yourselves if you think it’s worth waiting in line.

Brian Park  21:54

It’s never worth it.

Kulap Vilaysack  21:57

Let’s get into Youngmi’s cart. We have an eye mask with built in headphones?

SuChin Pak  22:10

You know what I was thinking? I was thinking it was like, one of those like, sheet masks. That’s where your money’s going. That’s why you’re not a rich person.

Youngmi Mayer  22:23

How do I put headphones in it, it’s all wet. And then throwing it away?

Brian Park  22:29

Technology’s advantage has come really far.

SuChin Pak  22:33

Tell us what this is, Kulap.

Kulap Vilaysack  22:34

This is okay. So this is the […] sleep headphones. 3d Bluetooth sleep mask. Sleeping headphones, wireless music sleeping masks for side sleepers. Gift for man cool tech gadgets birthday holiday unique gifts. They’re really, yeah, trying to you know, get everything.

Brian Park  22:54

Their SEO game is on pockets.

SuChin Pak  22:59

And yet, here we are, as women.

Youngmi Mayer  23:03

Subverting stereotypes. Women love gadgets too. Women in tech. I’m a woman in tech everyone.

SuChin Pak  23:17

So tell us about this.

Youngmi Mayer  23:18

So okay, so I just put in like the first one that came up on Amazon actually. But they do make a bunch of these if you search on Amazon, and they are like a sleeping eye mask with headphones. Inside the side, like inside the like the fabric part of it. And you know, in case someone’s listening, and I think they were made specifically for people who listen to ASMR when you sleep, because if you listen to ASMR, especially like the ones that are for sleeping and relaxing, or maybe all ASMR, they, the people who create those videos do the thing where the sound bounces back and forth. And so it’s kind of made for headphones, right? Like, you can’t really listen to it on speakers. And so a lot of people will sleep with their headphones on. So then they made these that so you can sleep and roll around and whatever. And they’ll just like stay by your ears.

Kulap Vilaysack  24:15

Okay, I really want to dive into this because I know what ASMR is. But I haven’t thought about that to help with sleep. Is that something you’ve been doing for a while now?

SuChin Pak  24:28

Like, are you using an app? Or what are you using?

Youngmi Mayer  24:31

It’s just on YouTube. There’s so many craters that do it that you can google sleep ASMR and I have my favorite creators. I’ll send you some of the best videos and then I make a playlist. And some of these videos there are people that make a sleep time ASMR that’s eight hours long. So it’s supposed to play the entire night while you’re sleeping.

Youngmi Mayer  24:56

They’ll go like, night, it’s time for you to go to sleep. I know you have had a long day. And they’ll make you ASMR noises and things like that. It’s the […]. It’s a feel so nice because it’s like someone’s whispering in your ear. It sounds like, you know, when you’re getting like a facial, and they’re like whispering to you, they’re like, I’m gonna put the mask on now like that. And there are people who pretend that they’re giving you a massage or a facial, so they’re like, oh, your shoulders are really tense today. It’s like, almost, you know, it’s so relaxing. Oh, my God.

SuChin Pak  25:39

What is out of all the content creators like which one for you is like the gold standard for you?

Youngmi Mayer  25:45

Oh, well, there’s just one person that just like, it’s so corny because a lot of times they’ll see really like, nice. Like, like, like supportive things like you’ve had a long day and you deserve. Just like this. Like a 23 year old woman being like, nobody hates you. They don’t hate, they all love you. And you know that stupid thing you said in the meeting? Nobody remembers that.

SuChin Pak  26:21

I can’t waste this on sleep. I need to put that in. Just all day while I’m making lunch and doing my laundry.

Kulap Vilaysack  26:29

I do need you to try this. Su, has a hard time getting to sleep. I can see this going two ways of course, which is positive and negatively. One I feel that you have so much anxiety the idea of somebody whispering in your ear will make your butthole tighten, the tightest it’s ever been.

SuChin Pak  26:50

When I tell you, a tiny pinhole right now. The thought of someone whispering a human being just near me. I’m already like, you know, gird your loins something bad is about to happen. To me, I thought it was going to be just white noise which I love, I sleep with sound machines. And so that I would use it for Yeah, you can do it with that.

Youngmi Mayer  27:23

I also listened to like the Tibetan. I think they’re called like sound bowls. You know those like, you can use it for white noise. You can use that for whatever you want. You don’t have to do the no one thinks you’re an idiot. Relax. Like the one that I like. And the person that I love is Australian. So it’s an Australian woman telling me that no one hates me. It’s okay that you owe your best friend money. She’s  doesn’t mind. Like this is something that an Australian accent. […]

SuChin Pak  27:24

All of your funny like observations,  all of your connections to human behavior, whispered with love.

Youngmi Mayer  28:18

I did make a comedy video, Brian, I did make a comedy video where I was like, I’m gonna do ASMR where it’s your drunk parents fighting in the next room. Like, let go off my arm. I saw you flirting with her. It’s like, reminds me of when I was eight years old. It’s putting me right to back. Then you call the cops. I don’t care. […]

Brian Park  28:51

I’ll make an SMR. I’ll make an ASMR for like, hey, buddy. You go to the store tomorrow and return those boots.

Youngmi Mayer  28:59

He doesn’t care that you’re back at the store returning the same pair of pants for the fifth time, Brian.

Brian Park  29:06

It’s okay. You’re injecting some stimulus into their day. They’re just standing there folding clothes. They like doing that for you.

Youngmi Mayer  29:16

You’re right, the creases are asymmetrical. And you’re right and you save.

Kulap Vilaysack  29:23

Five minutes in, you’re not weird. You’re not weird. You’re not weird. Totally. You’re not weird. You’re not weird. Brian. You’re not weird, Brian.

Brian Park  29:34

Wow. Wow, just what I didn’t think I could feel any better about myself, post intro. We’ve hit a new peak on this podcast.

SuChin Pak  29:44

You know what, one full episode of your guys’ podcast straight ASMR you get a podcast episode and people can download it on these Bluetooth eye mask things done and done guys.

SuChin Pak  29:58

I’m scared that it’s going to do so. so well that we are gonna have to fully pivot into that.

Youngmi Mayer  30:05

These people make so much money though. They make a million dollar. There’s like these are some of the biggest accounts on YouTube.

SuChin Pak  30:11

Wait, do you pay for them?

Youngmi Mayer  30:14

Because like, you know, when you get a lot of views on YouTube and get a lot of money, YouTube, people make ad revenue, baby.

SuChin Pak  30:20

Oh, god, wait, so then the ASMR while you’re sleeping in the middle of it, it’ll be like..

Youngmi Mayer  30:25

A commercial. This episode’s brought to you by Casper. It’s a lot of mattress companies. And they’re saying it while you’re sleeping. So you know you’re absorbing that information and tomorrow I’m gonna wake up like, I really want to know Casper mattress. I don’t know why.

SuChin Pak  30:43

And then not pick it up. Yeah.

Kulap Vilaysack  30:47

Wait, but Youngmi, they don’t do you know, like, when you like if I watch a video, they’ll just like cut in with like, weirdly times, they’ll just cut in with like commercials. Do they do that without like, just drop in real commercials? Because that would be so fun.

Youngmi Mayer  31:05

I pay for YouTube. So that doesn’t happen. But it probably does. So it probably does happen.

Kulap Vilaysack  31:15

You’re just like crying to like, it’s just like and she’s also like tide washer dirty clothes.

Youngmi Mayer  31:28

No, it’s gonna be for those it’s gonna be for this Cast Atlantic pants because we’re talking about so our iPhone hurt us. So we’re gonna be you’ll be listening to sleep. Cast Atlantic, double pleated pants.

Kulap Vilaysack  31:55

Brian, what about these flexible fabric band-aids.

SuChin Pak  31:58

All right, let’s throw that link up there.

Brian Park  32:00

All right, so the next item on like, in my card are flexible fabric band aid. So there’s, there’s really two types of band aids. There’s the plastic ones. If you use the plastic band aids, what are you doing?

Kulap Vilaysack  32:17

Why are you doing that?

Brian Park  32:19

They don’t stick. It’s terrible. It’s terrible. These flexible fabric band aids are there they’re made out of Kevlar basically. And I use so many of these because I, okay, well one, I rock climb and I play like tennis and I play golf. So like I always have calluses on my fingers. But I’m burning through them like crazy these days, because this is a lot of information. But I have a wart on my thumb. So I have to put this prescription medicine on it and wrap it in a band aid and these are the only band aids that seem to stick and I can still be really active with them. I swear by them.

Kulap Vilaysack  33:02

That’s amazing brand I really want to just let our listeners know that they are not made out of Kevlar also known as bulletproof fabric on vest, just to be clear, please don’t try to stop bullets with these band aids.

SuChin Pak  33:17

Thank you for that safety announcement. But this is, you guys, this is 31,000 5- star reviews. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything with the full yellow stars all the way.

Brian Park  33:36

This is the most well reviewed thing in human existence. These band aids right here. This is insane. 31,000 ratings five stars.

Youngmi Mayer  33:47

Somebody’s never heard of them before Brian and they really needed your help. Because these aren’t great. I’ve used these and they’re I have to agree. And I only recently discovered that myself so I’m glad.

Brian Park  34:01

I have a great future for myself as a tick tock content creator because that’s essentially all they do is just regurgitate the most popular things but it’s like hey guys, here are your most underground fun places to hang out in LA, number one, the Grow, number two, have you been to the Venice Boardwalk?

SuChin Pak  34:17

I love Brian has such like sharp edge about TikTok. I mean, I’m just kind of noticing this kind of love hate relationship. You’re on it a lot to know what’s up but you just hate it.

Brian Park  34:33

Lately, I have been getting a lot of comments on my Instagram videos being described as an Asian George Costanza I’ve never been associated my life.

SuChin Pak  34:47

I have been noticing. Yeah, I have been noticing the videos have been really digging into the soul of Brian, you know, because he’s such an attractive fellow, you know? Don’t you think that he doesn’t have a you know a mean thought in his brain you know and then some of the videos you’re like that’s great.

Brian Park  35:11

I’m an incredibly unsavory person to be around. And I have a highly contagious wart on my thumb.

Youngmi Mayer  35:20

Nice to meet you as well. What kind of idiot uses plastic band aids?

SuChin Pak  35:26

What have you done in your life? What have you done anything good in your life?

Brian Park  35:35

I stand by that like what are you doing?

Youngmi Mayer  35:38

Those are good. I have to say the ones Brian those band aids though which are really good. Once it was stuck on so good that it kind of hurt when it came off. I’m gonna leave a one star I’ll be the only one star review. It kind of hurt when I took it off.

Kulap Vilaysack  35:54

It’s okay Youngmi, keep him humble.

Brian Park  36:00

All I’m saying Youngmi is be careful if you do that because right behind the BTS army. The band aid flexible fabrics are right up there.

SuChin Pak  36:10

It’s 31,000 strong five star. There’s really not one 4-star just all five.

Kulap Vilaysack  36:19

Youngmi, I think SuChin is gonna be very interested in this. This Add to Cart. It’s the manufactory Niacin 2.0 essence. And so this is the same active ingredient as SK2 but it’s only $26.

Youngmi Mayer  36:45

Prices went up, inflation.

SuChin Pak  36:48

Okay, tell me about this.

Youngmi Mayer  36:50

I actually discovered this on TikTok speaking of TikTok. So it’s an it’s a Korean brand. I don’t know what it is in Korean because I only saw it in English. I think it’s […]. And it’s so the active ingredient, SK2 which everyone knows for the toner it costs $100 or it’s like $130 or something like that. The story is that they discovered the active ingredient because they went to a Sake like a brewery in Japan and the old like 100 and something here 150 years ago, whatever however old it is, and all the old men working there had really useful hands and they were like what’s going on and they discover that there’s this ingredient in Sake that makes your skin look useful. And then they launched this product SK2 it’s been a luxury skin toner for you know, every Asian grandma.  So that’s their story. So this Korean company took the active ingredient and just like distilled it just basically, it’s 93% of this. This ingredient, which I think is called. I don’t know, I guess that was called last […] Yeah, I think my guess is that they probably lost the like patent ownership or whatever. And so that then this company came along and you know, made a cheaper version. So SK2 only has only 30% of it is whatever that get like niacin, and this has 93% and it’s only $29 I mean, it’s a much smaller size too. Because the toner is like I think probably six ounces or something like that. This is probably 1.5.

SuChin Pak  38:39

And you’ve been using it and tell us about it.

Youngmi Mayer  38:42

So then I saw the TikTok and I was like whatever, who cares? And I have used SK2 in the past like there was like a two month period where I like splurged and I bought and I used it for like two months.

SuChin Pak  38:55

You going in there with your old underwear buying so much SK2.

Youngmi Mayer  39:01

And so I use them for like two months I didn’t really see a difference and then I bought this and immediately within three days I saw a huge difference in three days, and I’m like oh my god and then I set up a subscription on Amazon because I was like so excited but I don’t know if you can see my skin.

Brian Park  39:31

I was a little skeptical at first I thought this was gonna be a case of like hey Mom, can I have the SK2 cleanser, you like no we have the […]

Youngmi Mayer  39:42

at home. Exactly. No and then I was like whatever I was like skeptical. Also I don’t really see a big difference in my skin when I change products but this I could tell right away.

SuChin Pak  39:56

This ingredient that we can’t pronounce removes dead skin cells, managers pores and balances oil and moisture levels, it doesn’t strip your skin you know how sometimes like acids can strip your skin and that could be a good thing because it’s removing it but for sensitive skin?

Youngmi Mayer  40:13

Okay so I do have to say that the like the skin around my mouth got a little like irritated which I noticed after like a month of using it, but it wasn’t like you know sometimes you’ll put something on and it hurts. It stings, if that didn’t happen at all. But I didn’t notice like after a month like there was like a little bit of redness around my mouth. So I stopped, I just didn’t put it around my mouth. Maybe if you want to try it out, like avoid the like this nose and mouth area and your eyes. I’m glad you add that.

Kulap Vilaysack  40:46

That’s a huge tip, SuChin would have had red puffy eyes. It would have been a long arduous place to be get to a word like oh Su, she’s put it on multiple times a day.

SuChin Pak  41:02

I have a very heavy hand, light heavy step when I go into something, two hands elbows up, just you know otter style you don’t I mean like I need to get to the bottom of that thing. And I have to control myself when it comes to skincare but I have a hard time just a little […] is not me, you know, I like get out the spatty and I get right in there. All the edges, all the crust. I gotta try it and some would say that’s not the way to use skincare and then others would say I mean if I’ve really love a product trust me it’s because I got to the bottom of it, you know?

SuChin Pak  41:57

Okay, I love it. And I love just as everybody knows, just like a dupe, who doesn’t love a dupe? You know, like you’re winning. Your SK2 has already got everybody’s money. They don’t need moremoney.

Youngmi Mayer  42:11

They’re so rich. Yeah, they don’t need it. They got all our Asian grandma’s money.

Kulap Vilaysack  42:17

Don’t worry about them. Before we let you go, let’s go through one remove from cart. I’m so curious why Brian, have you […] meditation apps like headspace out the door? Why are you done with them?

Brian Park  42:32

Oh, I totally forgot that I put this on. Okay, so I take this as a sign of my growth. I’m absolutely done with the meditation apps because without fail every new year’s resolution, I’ll write into my like, brand new moleskin notebook that’s filled with so much potential uncreased I’m like this, this is the one that’s really going to turn it around. And then I’ll write in there I’ll be like, let’s meditate more this year. And I’ll buy like Sam Harris’s waking up. And, you know, I’ll pay like the full annual fees. I’m like, great. I’m saving like 30 cents more a month so I’m gonna buy the bulk like one year package.

Kulap Vilaysack  43:16

Because I’ll do it every day.

Brian Park  43:21

It just not I’ll do it for like in spurts maybe like two days and then I’ll stop. And I’ve just accepted this is my self-love. This is me being kind to my inner child. Fuck it. I’m not gonna use it. They don’t work. I’m done.

SuChin Pak  43:39

You can’t stop it at like, I’m not going to use it, you’re gonna go, they don’t work.

Brian Park  43:45

Straight up, just doesn’t work, doesn’t work.

SuChin Pak  43:49

This reminds me of the conversation we had with another guest. I forget. I didn’t know if it was Jen Sullivan or someone came on. And we had this conversation about journaling. And a past guest came on and said you know what I’m removing from cart is journaling. It doesn’t work. Like every year I start off the new year being every day I’m going to journal and those blank pages, they judge me every day as I don’t fill this notebook. So there is something about just growing older and being like, This is who I am. Let me find the thing that works for me and not the thing that works for everybody else. Or they say that works to them, right? […]

SuChin Pak  44:13

I think my No’s  make my yeses even brighter.

SuChin Pak  44:58

Because getting a yes from Kulap, it’s like you don’t even you didn’t even know that you needed it but like your insides shine bright that’s like a masterclass that’s decisiveness.

Youngmi Mayer  45:11

Yeah the honest. So I’ve like that’s what I’ve learned the power of the honest yes. Whenever I give a yes, I make sure that it’s an honest yes and authentic yes.

Kulap Vilaysack  45:23

Yeah, thank you both so much for coming on the show. This is a long time coming. I’d like to invite myself on your show. I don’t know if that’s possible.
