SPEAKERS

Deanna Cheng, Kulap Vilaysack, SuChin Pak

SuChin Pak  00:09

Hello nephews nieces Welcome back to ADD TO CART, the Auntie’s are here. This is a show about the things we buy the things we love, and what it says about who we are. I am SuChin Pak. And

Kulap Vilaysack  00:23

I’m Kulap Vilaysack.

SuChin Pak  00:25

Well, Kuku. It is February, you know, it’s a month filled with many things. But also we celebrate love, roses, chocolates, grand gestures, mini gestures, and whether you have a special someone in your life or not, or rather that special, someone is just you. Happy Valentine’s Day. The expectations are high, the pressure is on love is in the air.

Kulap Vilaysack  00:49

But here it adds to cart. We’re not about all that. Your aunties have been around long enough to know that as much as we love a little sweet from our sweeties or a classy dinner res. Nothing can compare to the love we save ourselves. Does some of that come internally? Sure. Can it also come from treating ourselves to nice things this time of year? Oh, most definitely.

SuChin Pak  01:16

Sliding right into the carts. Today we’re going to be sharing some of some of the things that we do to honor self-care and self-love. You know, doesn’t matter what your relationship status is. This is an ongoing conversation with ourselves, right? This is how we connect to our bodies, our minds and we fall in love with that little image in the mirror every morning. We say I love you.

Kulap Vilaysack  01:42

Shall we get into it? I am back on my fitness. So I know you’ve heard this 100 million times.

SuChin Pak  01:56

And I’ll hear it 100 million more baby.

Kulap Vilaysack  01:59

You will. That’s right. So you can tell the future. I am back on my fitness. nieces and nephews friends lovers. And I’m back on that peloton, baby. Self-care is getting my body right. And I’m working out I’m doing rides with Cody Rigsby. And I’m doing body strength with Rad Lopez, one of our past guests suggested Rad Lopez and he’s fantastic. He keeps me going. I have little conversations with him. One sided. I also have those with Cody. We have full relationships they’re unaware of. So I’m doing I’ve been working out to every other day.

SuChin Pak  02:42

Whoa, whoa, wait. So is this was this just you woke up? You know, Feb 1, and was like this is it? Was it a was it a post-holiday thing? Was it what was the thing that you were like? Okay, I gotta get back on the peloton.

Kulap Vilaysack  02:59

I mean, the most obvious thing would be like New Year’s new body, you know, like everybody gets their mind around that. But I just want to also throw in that, like, my daughter happens to be a huge motivator. And the timing of it all is that like she’s four months now. And like I look at her and I want to be alive longer. I look at her.

SuChin Pak  03:26

I love we can turn something so sweet. And go right to the casket. You know what I mean? This is the show where when we turn we just turned the most innocuous things and we go but at the end of life.

Kulap Vilaysack  03:42

But Su, that’s true. That’s the future. The future is death. Correct.

SuChin Pak  03:58

By the way, universal future. We can all share it. It’s the same language. It’s the universal language of humankind is death.

Kulap Vilaysack  04:08

The great equalizer.

SuChin Pak  04:10

I agree. I agree. Another one I like to and in that same vein, I always like to say to my friends, we are never going to be younger and more alive than in this exact moment. So have the churro you know?

Kulap Vilaysack  04:27

Well you’re not having the churro though, it makes you feel better not to have the churro, she is gluten free if you’ve forgotten.

SuChin Pak  04:36

Correct. And if there’s a gluten free churro maker out there, please drop us a DM because let me tell you, it’ll be for a future episode. I’ve gotten some fantastical DMS from our GF folks out there I have found my community once again right here on Add to cart but anyway it’s beautiful. I love that you are peloton working out with death lovingly, urging you on.

Kulap Vilaysack  05:02

Yeah. And I think now that I have a baby, after decades of just sort of like fucking around and giving a lot of excuses. Now there are true limits to my time. And so now it’s not, there’s not so many like conversations. Yeah. It’s like, low actually, I only have this amount of time. And to kind of get things done, I have to do them. And then there’s just sort of a nice sort of calm about it. So it’s got to happen.

SuChin Pak  05:35

For those listening that that would love to get back on the physical routine, and maybe just haven’t done so yet. But it’s been on their mind their list of things to do. Like do what is your routine? What is the thing that you do the ritual whatever it is, so that it stays on your calendar, and you actually do the workout.

Kulap Vilaysack  05:59

Have a baby at 42, have less time than you’ve ever had before? Because I truly see I mean, that’s what’s different. If we’re gonna say what’s different, and I used to, I mean, and I’m sure it’s a product of also the pandemic, as well. And because I got really heavy during the pandemic, I was very depressed. Like I just I, you know, and I’ve said to you, it’s like, I have a gym downstairs, and I barely ever used it, just like it didn’t want to do anything like it just, and maybe even prior to that, like I used to kickbox all the time. I was like, I’m very strong. But I had, I had been gaining weight every year, no matter what I did. I think in part, it’s getting older. Another part is whole of the IVF meds that I was on consistently.

SuChin Pak  06:55

Yeah, that’ll do. All those hormones.

Kulap Vilaysack  06:58

I think so, there was just like a lot of things. And now just trying to get this baby just trying to get this baby just dealing with not having a baby, just dealing with like the disappointment and now we have or it’s like, oh, it’s like just a new chapter. So I, you know, like, I don’t know, I’m not the one I’m not the one to ask for people who, you know, don’t have my exact set of like circumstances, you know, just like the joke of it all is like, oh, I figured out that. If you eat in moderation, and you work out consistently, you feel better. You know what I mean, what am I gonna say? That’s like, magic. It’s just like, truly is like, oh, okay, like, if I want to do this, I have to do it.

SuChin Pak  07:47

The stakes are higher, that are higher. I, you know, that’s, that’s how I feel in terms of like, my mindfulness journey. I don’t think, you know, it wasn’t until I had kids that I was like, oh, no, I gotta figure this out. I gotta figure out why I’m so unhappy, why I rage, why I can’t sleep, why, you know, etcetera, etcetera. Because the cost is that I’ve got these two babies, that you know what I mean, that will suffer. And so nothing motivates you more than, you know, when you lose your shit or you’re so tired. You can’t even do the simplest things with your kids. And then you’re like, No, this stops here. Let me figure out you know, a solution to it. So I I’m with you on that. That makes a lot of sense.

Kulap Vilaysack  08:39

Yeah, left to my own devices would be how I was how I was, I mean, you know, like, it has also been such a journey for me. I’ve talked about a tube just like not being at war with my body and just kind of going you know, like especially starting my early adulthood in Hollywood as an actress and just kind of my body image was really very messed up and it was pretty kind of like emotionally violent towards myself if not physical and like wanting to look at certain way and just like never being satisfied when I was perfectly fine that the entire time, it’s sad what we do I love being 40 plus because I don’t give a fuck it’s for me like it’s for me. The next thing that I was going to add to it which I want to get your reaction is that I’m working out every other day and the I’m doing cold plunges in the pool.

SuChin Pak  09:39

Oh, my God. I was with you on the peloton. I don’t have a peloton. But I was with you on that. That felt familiar. This is you got to talk me through this step by step.

Kulap Vilaysack  09:55

I will talk yes and I know for you, I mean you’re a hot shower lady.

SuChin Pak  10:04

We just add, I stopped taking showers in our bathroom because the water just wasn’t hot enough. And so I was taking showers at my parents’ house where the water is steaming hot for whatever reason. And so Mike finally, we had to hire a handyman and he comes in and he’s like, yeah, so what are we doing today? He’s like, I don’t know if this is possible. The shower is not hot enough for my wife. And the water heater, it’s set to a certain degree and that’s hot. But for some reason the shower is nice. So I mean, this was like a, this is a week six week journey of this man. Disassembling our shower, ordering the part watching YouTube videos on how to how to make this happen. I mean this and he did it. And it’s hot. And I like it.

Kulap Vilaysack  10:54

And now I’m coming at you talking about every other day cold plunges. I know.

SuChin Pak  11:05

My feet are already you know, they’re a quiver. You know, very cold feet. Three fingers length. It’s like very narrow.

Kulap Vilaysack  11:26

I want to give a little background. I have been influenced by Wim Hof. But with Wim Hof who I discovered through watching goop on Netflix season one. What I was doing was like okay, I was doing cold showers at the end of the shower. Yeah, I turn it up cold it’s better for the hair get the blood going and I would do like horse stance and breathe, but I wasn’t doing that consistently. Okay, but I was like okay, I like this dude. I think it’s pretty crazy to be swimming in the Arctic with just like is like tighty whities? What a dude, what a dude.

SuChin Pak  12:01

He’s also like from like, I don’t even know I don’t forget he’s like Dutch Euro.

Kulap Vilaysack  12:07

Then as I have said over and over again on the show during text […] already is I continue to watch Chris Hemsworth in limitless on net geo again. And one episode is him swimming in the Arctic and talking about like the health benefits and stuff. But it really wasn’t until I saw some random lady on TikTok. Some random lady in TikTok who lives I can’t, I don’t even know her name. When I just tell you she came up on the feed. And she’s kind of just doing a challenge. She’s not like a fancy influencer. Yeah, she’s just like this normal person who’s decided to do like ice plunges in she lives somewhere where there’s snow. It’s a pool that she set up in the front yard like a small almost like they call them like cowboy jacuzzis, basically. And she’s doing it for two minutes. And she’s just like a normal lady. And that was the thing was like, if she could do it, I can do it. And I just decided after a workout in like, just like my underwear in a robe.

SuChin Pak  13:15

Oh, you mean swimwear?

Kulap Vilaysack  13:18

Yeah, in a SuChin somewhere outfit. I just walked outside. I was like two minutes. Let’s go two minutes in this pool at 55 degrees. Now, some of you who are already in cool pludges are like that ain’t nothing. We’re doing 45 degrees. But I’m not chilling my pool. I have a pool heater on a pool cooler. It’s like whatever the temp. And by the way it is. In the beginning. It’s quite cold. It’s quite cold. And it is shocking. And that’s the point, right? It’s shocking. But what you need to know about Kuku is I don’t do things unless I get pleasure out of them. And so of course it’s immediately cold. And your body’s like what are you doing? Why are you doing this get out of the pool? Why are you going further? Why are you up to your neck right now? This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. And I’ve done it now for over two weeks at every other. And now I think I’m up to two and a half. I just like oh, let me just go up to two and a half minutes. But now it’s like, now I’m swimming. Like, I don’t know if there’s a limit like five minutes. Like I think that the move to progress would be to somehow do a colder plunge. But what it feels like is like this, you know the sensation of like Vicks Vapor Rub? No, no, but maybe at first it shocks you. But then your body immediately regulates this. There’s a rush of warmth.

SuChin Pak  14:52

I don’t think my body will regulate. I just don’t trust it.

Kulap Vilaysack  14:55

Do you like the feeling of like well Like Vicks Vapor Rub or Tiger Balm or any of that stuff?

SuChin Pak  15:04

Yeah, when there’s heat applied to it on top.

Kulap Vilaysack  15:08

With the heat, and all of a sudden like heat surges and it’s this like really unusual feeling. And it it’s like my surgeon it’s my drug right now, of course I’m still micro dosing but it is my drug like and it feels good to me.

SuChin Pak  15:31

You are a warrior. Going from a peloton workout into a cold plunge somebody get a Netflix crew out to the Vilaysack’s. You’re missing out.

Kulap Vilaysack  15:47

I forced on it. I like really pressured my little sister to do it. And she’s the one who now has now I’m wearing bathing suits because I was like, let’s just go in our underwear. She’s like, no. Okay, you’ll go if I will get a bathing suit.

SuChin Pak  16:03

She didn’t want.

Kulap Vilaysack  16:06

Like, she’s like, fine. You know, like that, to me is a yes. So we were both in bathing suits. She went in. She looked like she was gonna cry the entire time. And I was like, I know it’s bad. It’s bad. It’s bad. I know. But you just like, keep moving and like, and then as she came out, you could tell like she was like, oh.

SuChin Pak  16:29

That feels good. Cuz you feel good afterwards you’re saying, the benefits of.

Kulap Vilaysack  16:35

Now I’m at the point where I’m feeling good. Like, it’s also always like, this is a different climate. This is shocking, but I’m starting to feel good in the pool. I’m starting to feel warm in the pool now. I didn’t pee. You guys get nasty, folks. I didn’t pee on myself. It’s my body. It’s my body getting warm. Okay. But she was like, she goes I’ll do it again. I was like, okay, okay, here we go. I can never do anything without trying to recruit people to do it with me. It’s like I can’t I am like fun that way. It is more fun that way.

SuChin Pak  17:17

Oh my god, you and Bender. Same he can’t do he just can’t do one thing by himself. He always has to pitch me the idea and I’m like no.

Kulap Vilaysack  17:26

Scott will literally never do it, will literally other thing that I need to show you that I think is super funny. My sister sent it to me like the day after we did our first plunge together. Are you familiar with the influencer Bretman Rock.

SuChin Pak  17:40

I mean, I love Bretman Rock.

Kulap Vilaysack  17:41

I love him. He’s doing a series that has just started called Ice Batty on Instagram, TikTok, and it’s him doing a cold plunge at 730 in the morning and it’s so funny because he’s just like I don’t even know why I’m doing this. He’s like freezing and he’s like you’re a bad bitch.

SuChin Pak  18:29

Oh, I certainly took the theme of this in a different direction. I took this theme more as like, like a valentines you know, how do we take care ourselves of ourselves but also more? How do we take care of the friends in our lives you know, that support us and give us so much love kind of a thing. And valentines you know, that phrase, just your community of whoever they are, that hold you up. Like that is I would say my number one form of self-care. Like if I don’t get enough time, and I don’t need it. I don’t need it to be very often but it has to be consistent. But I don’t get enough time with my girlfriends were for you know, X amount of hours or days. I am. I am huddled over crying laughing snot coming out of my nose. You know for with my girlfriends. I don’t have any other release. I’m not cold plunging. I’m not exercising. That’s my release. So in that vein, I attended a valentines neighborhood book swap and it was very, very cute. Very unexpected. I slept for two days after you know adds a lot of energy for me to expend. But I thought I was like, this is such a great idea to do on a somewhat regular basis. With your BFFs, what you do is you have everyone bring a book that they loved. And you get together at someone’s house, you have a little, you know, a little alcohol, little appetizer, whatever you want to do. And each person, when it’s time to do the book swap, they get to tell you why they bought this book and why they loved it. So and then they put it on the table. And then people get to choose books. And I just thought for all, you know, you nerds out there. Your book lovers like me, this is like my dream get together. It is a book club. It’s no book club. There’s I don’t want to read on someone’s schedule. I also don’t want to necessarily read what you’re reading, you know. So it’s not a book club. This is a book swap. And there are people that came in were like, I didn’t read this book. Because I didn’t have time. However, a friend of mine gave it to me. And she said it was the best book she read because X, Y and Z. I mean, they were just like, really funny. You know what I mean? Like it doesn’t. There’s no pressure, there was nothing precious about it. The whole point of it is to get together with your friends. And then I just thought this was kind of like a little fun thing, but it’s not such a fun idea, Kulap, we should do a book swap, because we’ve got amazing readers.

Kulap Vilaysack  21:30

Yeah, it’s like, it’s like a clothing swap but books. I’ve never heard of this, Sue. And it’s like you as soon as you talked. You said it. I was like, oh, obviously. That’s a great idea.

SuChin Pak  21:43

It was so fun. I mean, the whole thing took an hour and a half, you know, I mean, we ate we had they went as far as having like a little raffle because it was a fundraiser for our school. But I mean, it was just such a such a great idea. Low key, and I was like, I’m gonna do this. I’m going to talk a lot about this. I think this is a really fun idea for us to do at some point down the road. I don’t know, I just saw Zoey and me doing this. I just there was there’s a there’s something here, because she’s a reader too. So I could see this tradition, you know, with a group of people and friends and coming together where you bring a book, you share it with a group why you loved it, which is kind of fun. You know, when you really love a book you want to tell, I mean, I’m the type of person that wants to tell everyone about it.

Kulap Vilaysack  22:33

That’s how I feel about cold punching.

SuChin Pak  22:36

And maybe your event could be everybody gets together and cold plunge. I will be RSVPing for that event, but doesn’t matter. Gonna be a book swap in the cold plunge. Okay. So in the spirit of valentine’s, what I did also was I received some cute little presents of love from some girlfriends and that inspired me to give some gifts. Okay, I have talked about this place, online before, click on the link Furbish studio. So I’ve talked about them from the very beginning of this podcast. I’ve talked about them as like, yeah, just a fun place. It’s Furbishstudio.com. And the founder, Jamie Mears. I don’t know she’s sort of this. Bon Vivant you know she’s a stylish as an interior person. I’m not quite sure exactly what she does. But she just has that touch. You know where just everything is delightful. After you know she’s recommended it and she has this store online and I’ve bought a ton of stuff from her. I bought these. They’re hand stitched needlepoint pillows that she sells and they have the funniest quotes on them. And this is the one that I bought. This is the this is for my gal friend who is so bougie but still loves the bargain basement friend that I am. You know that she can she can get down she can get down with an off fifth maybe, you know, it’s just about as bargain basement. She’ll go and she just Yeah, is lovely. And so I bought her a needlepoint pillow that said the best things in life are free. The second best are very expensive. And it’s embroidered in roses. And it’s just the perfect little thing that I thought for her home office that she could put and remember, I mean, and she has new needle points all the time with different quotes. And they’re funny, they’re they can be irreverent. Like now we sip champagne when we thirsty. I mean that’s obviously from a song that I don’t recognize, but you know.

Deanna Cheng  24:59

I would like you to say that all the time, it’s really important to me.

SuChin Pak  25:05

Classy, bougie ratchet I’ve heard of that. I think it must be a song or a band. Megan Thee Stallion, You can you can have a one day go low I get high, that’s a little cheeky spin on Michelle Obama herself. So anyway, I just love this and it’s a place where if you feel like you need a gift for your BFF This is a spot to get it. It is Valentine’s Day, it’s a day of love of celebrating loved ones and the love you have for yourself. I think this holiday, a lot of people wrestle with it. I always looked at it as less of a traditional holiday and one were just for one day, you write a little note, you really think about the love that you have already have in your life, not necessarily the love that you’re missing. Or the love that’s out there that eludes you, right like this is about more than just romantic love.

Kulap Vilaysack  26:13

Yeah, Su. And so we are really happy and proud to have a sponsor like Bumble on Add to Cart this month. adding to cart. So many of you might be wondering, but you aunties are taken.

SuChin Pak  26:32

Such a shame.

Kulap Vilaysack  26:34

But you listeners are asking why Bumble? Yeah. Why Bumble? Yeah. And that’s because we aunties want to give you all the advice, that’s all we want to do is tell you what to do. By the way is that’s not clear. If you’re out there dating and looking for love. Bumble is a forward thinking app founded by women for women. That’s right.

SuChin Pak  26:55

And Bumble wants us to rethink Valentine’s Day, right? It’s not just a holiday about romantic relationships. But really, they’re about how do you have that loving relationship with yourself with romantic relationships with your friends with your family? And so I don’t know Ku and I, we were so delighted when we heard that Bumble was sponsoring us and really learning more about their sort of ethos, right? So that got me thinking about like, is there a moment that I’ve had in my life where love was the theme, but in at the end of the day, being in that relationship, or recognizing that loving relationship was much more of an acknowledgement of who I was and how I was growing, you know? And it made me think of my dear my dear friend, my dear partner in life, Mike Bender, so Mike and I dated when we were 25. And then we took a 10 year hiatus, and then we dated. So we dated at 25. And then broke up and it was like I running screaming. I was like, I don’t know what this is. This man owns a station wagon. He has a house like I am not, no, I just wasn’t, I was a mess. When I was 25. I wanted the broke New York artist, you know, that was going to treat me as shit. Like he came along. And I was like, Absolutely not. I have no idea what to do with this. And so I broke up with him. We were 25. And then 10 years past, and 10 years of just terrible relationships. 10 years of trying to figure out like what I wanted, but 10 years of trying to figure out what I deserved.

Deanna Cheng  28:51

Oh, ring a bell rang a bell.

SuChin Pak  28:55

And so about 35 I reached out back to him because I had a moment and I said, this is not working for me. I want to be with someone that respects me. I want to be with someone who is truly a partner. And I’ve only met one person in my entire life and it was Mike Bender, and I called him and we rekindled our romance. We got married had kids I mean it happened so fast the second time. And yes, that relationship is fantastic. But really that relationship a lot of it was a reflection of where I was at that time. I was finally ready to say I deserve the absolute best. I deserve someone who is amazing. And it wasn’t until I got to that point. Did I find the love of my life, anyway.

Kulap Vilaysack  29:52

Not anyway. Don’t you dare with it anyway, dropping all these truth bombs. I’m getting more delicious details like I’m feeling Sitting right now I’m so full. God, I was just getting crumbs before I know you’ve been starving me this whole time.

SuChin Pak  30:08

Well, I mean, you know what I mean, not to sound, you know, corny, but thinking about love today and trying to come up with like, what was that moment when I really like, like felt that deserved self-love. I like that was the number one that is continues to be the number one moment in my life and I’ve had many cents. So whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, whether you’re looking for love out there, knowing that you deserve the best, the most important thing we’ve learned about this particular holiday is that it starts with us. It starts with you.

Kulap Vilaysack  30:47

We’re so proud to have a sponsor like Bumble. Yeah, because they’re an app always thinking about empowering women. They are a woman founded forward thinking dating app, where as we all know, women make the first move. And your move on this Valentine’s Day might be to grab a coffee and meet someone new. Or to throw off the bonds of the old story of Valentine’s Day and leave town with the girls for like a valentines weekend. healthy boundaries are actually the key to any relationship. And Bumble knows that. So the bumble app is free and available in the App Store and Google Play Download it today. Add to Carter’s let’s be honest, I mean if we’re going to be anything, let’s be honest. At one point or another, we’ve all been enticed with some sort of complicated and expensive looking beauty device that promises to turn back the hands of time through its patented technology. But the question that always nags in the back of our minds is does this thing actually work?

SuChin Pak  31:54

Yeah. And another one is it a scam? You know, I want those questions, right who it does often feel a little bit too good to be true. But where there is no risk? There is of course no reward. That’s what we always say here on Add to Cart. No, every episode, sub textually spiritually, and we finally voiced it here. Luckily, we have found we have searched high and wide. We have scoured the lands. We have found our very own woman on the inside who has made a true commitment to uncovering the truth. We’d like to introduce

Kulap Vilaysack  32:39

Our device detective. She is an actor, a writer, a director. She’s the montage Queen making so many beautiful videos to cherish but more importantly, starting today she is our resident expert helping us cut through the bullshit and figure out which devices are worth the cash and which belong in the trash. Please add to cart Triple D, Deanna Cheng.

Deanna Cheng  33:16

Wow, I am shaking.

SuChin Pak  33:22

How do we change the Wikipedia right now? How do we get device to..

Deanna Cheng  33:28

We might need to start one up. And then immediately after that. First of all the pressure right now to deliver to the good people of add to cart. Yeah, my findings you know, the pressure is high. And I am here pressure is high. First of all, I want to say obsessed with you too. I have I just think that the stylings of a Ku and a SuChin are perfect. I like where you differ. I like where you come together. I laugh a lot. And I just think it’s a fantastic podcast. So I just want to say that it is thrilling to be here.

Kulap Vilaysack  34:19

That I mean, I’m blushing one. One, I’m blushing, two, I before we launch into this device, I need the people to know how you’ve come to this position. Where we have asked you to do this. We came to you we You didn’t come to us we came to you. Because I’ve been seeing being friends with you for a decade plus now. I’ve seen you like figure stuff out, you have figured stuff out okay, like you. We’ve all were ladies, we’ve been into skincare but what shifted for you?

Deanna Cheng  35:01

I kind of took a look at my journey and it’s really been a year since I started. And I just went hard on these skincare tools. Full disclosure, I made my way to YouTube and I found a gal named Angie Hot and flashy. It’s not a name that’s gonna feel good. It’s not a name that you’re gonna want to say out loud because it’s tough. But I love her. She’s amazing. This is powered by Angie hot and flashy. I’m essentially a minion bringing you, you should probably have gotten her but you didn’t know about her till now. So here I am. Bringing the good word of Angie Han flashy. She is just turned 60, stunning. Wow, I am not messing around with an influencer under 42.

Deanna Cheng  36:11

Whoa, I don’t care. I don’t care.

SuChin Pak  36:26

You have glass skin. The embryonic fluid still […] from the afterbirth. Of course you have glass skin.

Deanna Cheng  36:36

Correct. Yes. And I find that not only are the gals over, really I like them in their 60s if I’m gonna be honest, I like them in their 60s. But I will take 40 and above. Unless it’s a doctor. There’s a few doctors who I don’t exactly know their age. But I’m mostly zeroed in on the older set. I find they’re very honest. They do a ton of homework. And she does so much research guys. She’s a she’s a regular person, but she is Science Base like she’ll do when she does her before and after picture. She’s doing them the same time of day. The same. You know, she’s logging everything. And she’s not a joke. She also started this over, I think over 10 years ago. So she’s been in it for a minute a lover. So Angie was talking about the OmniLux red light mask.

Kulap Vilaysack  37:37

This is what we’re gonna get into today, everybody.

Deanna Cheng  37:40

This is how things kicked off for me. And it is a $400 mask. And I just thought, Okay, first of all, I trust Angie, I, you know, I trusted her skincare recommendations. And I was like, I’m going to invest. I don’t, I resent going to like, I’ll go to a dermatologist, doctor, but any sort of boutique dermatology place? I’m sure there’s a better name for them than that. I don’t want to be there.

SuChin Pak  38:11

Like a nurse’s syringe cafe.

Deanna Cheng  38:15

Not interested.

SuChin Pak  38:18

I’m not gonna name names, but I’ve seen those ads. I’m like, Yeah, I don’t want to go to a bar with a syringe, you know?

Deanna Cheng  38:27

I just and I’m not going to spend the money on those treatments. It’s not going to happen. Yeah. I would rather invest ultimately less money, you know, in tools that have research behind them. And that I can do at home. And that was the thought process and then I just went hard at it. Like I just was like, I want everything you know, and I just decided to get it all. Started out with the OmniLux mask, which I love. And I’m gonna tell you why. It’s red light therapy. Do you guys have any feelings on that?

Kulap Vilaysack  39:05

I know that people like it. Yeah, red lights, blue lights, put lights on me. I know that it’s something that needs to be done.

Deanna Cheng  39:17

Okay, so it’s supposed to boost collagen and it’s supposed to reduce inflammation. Fantastic. I like that because that’s like your body actually doing making Yeah, making things for it, not just a temporary solution. So OmniLux is also the company that makes the red light machines for the dermatology office.

SuChin Pak  39:42

Oh, critical. This is where hot and flashy is done first search way by the way. It’s hot and flashy and Triple D I mean, I’m just saying you know?

Deanna Cheng  40:06

Very sexy, very sexy. Oh my god. Wow.

SuChin Pak  40:12

Okay, so, yes, they make the actual lasers. Right.

Deanna Cheng  40:17

Right and I know as a listener that you guys have the solo wave and similar technology right? So it’s the but with the mask it’s, you know, so many like she’s pulling out the mask and pulling out this is how many lights are on, I’m just going to stay on you for 10 minutes you’re not moving it around, you’re not so the idea of trying to get that solo wave in every spot of your face how is that possible? And you know it just, so this is different and you’re gonna pay for that difference but I do think it’s an investment if you’re gonna spend 100 and something dollars right?

Deanna Cheng  40:58

Yeah, a little bit more wine.

SuChin Pak  41:00

Yeah, so just get the app

Deanna Cheng  41:03

something that you can put on your face it’s 10 minutes you can as the commercial show you if you go on their Instagram or whatever their people are on their computers they’re starting their morning you know you can do a lot in your […]

Kulap Vilaysack  41:22

We will have a link and we will post perhaps post the video again of you traveling with it in Italy/

Deanna Cheng  41:31

I was inspired by their marketing and I thought let me take this with me on my trip and just have a little fun and pop it on and show how easy it is to get a treatment in.

SuChin Pak  41:45

And so give us the OmniLux routine. What is your routine with the Omnilux that has worked for you because I feel like you’ve probably tried a few things you know trial and error let’s just get right to the winning formula.

Deanna Cheng  42:00

Yeah, it’s sort of a no brainer you can’t go wrong with it because you’re strapping it on and you’re watching the morning I think is great but this is something again that’s stimulating collagen so it’s like if you’re a night routine person you can do it right before you go to bed I used to do in the morning I also reached out to them and I purchased these.

SuChin Pak  42:23

Okay she’s holding up to they look like silicone goggles without the actual lens.

Deanna Cheng  42:33

They get popped in there because I just wanted even though they say it’s totally safe for your I don’t mind having a little extra protection or just 20 bucks something like that they sent it great so I like that too. And with those guys in you can see perfectly you don’t have any red coming at you so you really I’m yeah I’m answering emails in that guys.

Kulap Vilaysack  42:57

You mean potentially you could stop crime.

SuChin Pak  43:02

Because nobody will know it’s you they will have any idea what’s behind the mask. Is there is there a mouth hole like eat a corndog

Deanna Cheng  43:14

Okay, there is a mouth hole I don’t use the mouth hole guys. I’m gonna be honest I tried to I want to have a little dignity so I set my coffee up by the logic of them a little warmer I’m sorry I just feel like there’s, I want these LEDs to be left alone to do their work it’s 10 minutes I think I can handle throwing something in my face.

SuChin Pak  43:44

I feel judged

Deanna Cheng  43:47

But the hole is there and it’s available.

SuChin Pak  43:56

We’ll be back in just a moment while she collects herself Are you putting a serum on before?

Deanna Cheng  44:07

You are not unless you purchase they do have masks that you can put underneath that is going to give an extra boost. I feel like every single company has their refillable product, do you know what I’m saying? They’re selling something else. Yeah, I think it’s lovely. I tried it. I don’t think it’s moving the needle one way or the other but available, but they’re not even they’re definitely not saying you need to put it’s a special extra boosts. Yeah. So no, you do it with dry clean skin.

SuChin Pak  44:47

Wow. Now my question is I had to take just a tiny accident with the solo wave, it wasn’t nothing major. I have recovered. I have no lasting damage. I did go a little hard. And I burned just the corner just at the top of my cheekbone right where it’s near the I burn that. Is it heated? Can What could that happen? What if I accidentally fell asleep in it? Like, these are all questions I have.

Deanna Cheng  45:20

great questions. And I’m not trying to like, take down this wand, but I would know how it’s really hard to know how much of your face you’ve done. How much you haven’t done. It’s on a timer. It will go off in 10 minutes.

SuChin Pak  45:34

And does it feel warm?

Deanna Cheng  45:38

A tiny bit. Yeah. Nothing. There’s no redness afterwards. Yeah, it is pleasant.

Kulap Vilaysack  45:46

Now SuChin, you followed everything with Deanna has laid out for you. Timer goes off at 10 minutes.

SuChin Pak  46:09

Really pants me on the air. Hmm. Just getting to the nuggets.

Kulap Vilaysack  46:17

Su, answer the question, would you?

SuChin Pak  46:19

Well, I’m asking Deana can I, should I? I was gonna do that privately. But hey, since we’re all here being honest,

Deanna Cheng  46:29

I think it would be fine. But something I’ve definitely learned this year is to just take it easy. You know, I did a lot. I did too much. For sure. And now I’m pacing myself with all these devices. So there is no need to. I’m gonna say please, please don’t. Yeah, yeah. Jason.

SuChin Pak  46:59

Okay, listen, this is why you’re the device detective. I trust you. I’ve placed all of my trust in you. I don’t have to do the work. I’m not going to do I’m not going to hit refresh on this thing. I’m going to let it go.

Kulap Vilaysack  47:13

You were smart to say please don’t. Because if you allow her that second round, that means it’s okay to do the third. So I think kind of get off now is good.

SuChin Pak  47:24

Now, my last question. I want to talk about results. Because we’re not messing around. I mean, I assume you bought this thing initially for $400 with your hard earned cash after hearing the recommendation, correct? And so, you’re here to tell us you love it. And so what are the results? Yeah,

Deanna Cheng  47:50

I mean, and that’s the thing that’s a little vulnerable is to come on here and be like, I think I look pretty good.

Kulap Vilaysack  47:58

You do you look beautiful. I’m just laughing it out what you’re saying?

SuChin Pak  48:07

You look amazing, but I don’t know, like before the OmniLux. Give me like what?

Deanna Cheng  48:14

I’ve, this is what I’ve seen. Overall, I feel my skin looks a lot brighter. Okay, I also see a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

Kulap Vilaysack  48:26

I mean, this is huge. Okay.

Deanna Cheng  48:28

I guess the other thing I’ve learned? Can I parse out? It’s been a year of doing a lot. So can I parse out exactly what’s doing what is it this? Is it that is it the other it’s hard to exactly say because it all happened in a 12 month period. But I definitely and I’m not doing the before and after pictures, but this is what I will say. And this is an overall note for myself, is that when I look in the mirror, I’m like, oh, hi. I like it.

Deanna Cheng  49:05

That’s what we want.

SuChin Pak  49:08

That’s the voice that shows up in the morning in the mirror I would be on cloud nine. It’s not the voice that shows up in the mirror for me.

Deanna Cheng  49:17

Well, that’s crazy, because I’m looking but I just feel like I’m seeing subtle changes. And I feel like things are working and I feel like I’m a lot less not that I was horribly critical but I feel like I’m not critical right now of myself like I was before I started zipping and zap and like putting all these devices on me you know, so I don’t know. I also think it’s a more subtle journey when you’re doing the at home devices. It’s not the same as like going to going and getting like a bunch of fillers and shots and like treatments. I think you’re going to see a quicker turnaround I think this is a slower more gentle journey, but I do think my skin looks really good.

Kulap Vilaysack  50:06

I mean, you, you look fantastic or glowing right now. Or is there anything like for our listeners like for them to be aware of like some things like how it could be Aside from using it too long incorrectly. Upside down inside out like is there a note?

Deanna Cheng  50:30

With the OmniLux mask and neck and […]. You can’t go wrong with it. I will say if you use it every day, I think there could be some like a brown spot occurring here and there because it might have you might have been overdoing the red light. It seems like red light therapy. The results like roll in days after you’ve done it at least based on what I’ve Googled guys really I don’t you know. That’s my detective work. I think I was using everything every day. And I’ve now I’m on a schedule. So I don’t think you need to be using it every day. I think you should use it three or four times a week.

SuChin Pak  51:17

That’s good to know. That’s good to know because I was going to do it every day. The only thing I was going to say to just like wrap this up because I’m sold, let’s get some codes. Let’s get some discounts before I hit proceed. What I love about this too is that you don’t have to do the serums and the you literally just have to sit and you don’t even have to just sit you could be on an email you get moving around you could go to Italy you could be ordering food at a kiosk you could be traveling in an airport all of these videos you will see.

Kulap Vilaysack  52:01

There’s not a cord connected.

SuChin Pak  52:03

Wait, wait this is Mobile? The whole thing is you don’t have to be into like plugged into a wall socket?

Deanna Cheng  52:09

Oh god no, I’m taking dishes out of the dishwasher. No, you just this this is what this piece.

SuChin Pak  52:16

is what’s holding like the little it looks almost like a mouse. You know what I mean?

Deanna Cheng  52:21

Exactly. Yeah. And they have a little travel bag. I mean, they kind of have thought of everything. Yeah, you know, so that’s nice. It’s a high end situation right like your 400 is going somewhere.

Deanna Cheng  52:35

Su’s cheerleading right now.

SuChin Pak  52:38

And I’m so excited you don’t understand like I just I’ve really held back on devices in general because they are such an investment and you know the research it just like I get so lost in it. I’ll be convinced and then the next day I’ll dive in again I’m like no, that’s not the right word. So I’m really loving the segment. I want this to be a reoccurring segment where you have tested something and you’re like guys, these are the results let’s not waste our money let’s pool our knowledge and get it right.

Kulap Vilaysack  53:57

So you’ve heard us talk about Revela last year and the results we’ve had with your hair regrowth serum, yes. changer, game changer. What we both love about them is their focus on the science and research behind their products. Right. So, reveler is hoping to raise the bar across the broader beauty and wellness industry with their same philosophy and biotechnology. And drumroll they have a new skincare product. And we’re so proud that they are sponsoring our podcast again and sharing this amazing new serum with us.

SuChin Pak  54:31

Okay. So, I mean, you guys heard me talk about what a game changer this was for my hairline. I have this tiny little bald patch. I use a Revela you know hair serum. works like magic. So when I heard that they were launching the skincare line I was so excited. Now Revela’s founders are Harvard and MIT scientists. They are using an AI technology in a revolution. nary way to find molecules, okay, that can improve skin and hair. That’s what they’re actually doing. They’re trying to make a breakthrough with AI technology. And they’ve narrowed down a molecule called Fibro Quinn, that has been tested in clinical trials. And this molecule, you guys, which of course I’ve never heard of, and probably you guys haven’t ever heard of it, I have not heard of this. No, I mean, this is kind of what they do. They find that thing that actually works, and nobody’s talking about it, right. And this fiber Quinn is a pro collagen molecule, and it targets the collagen production directly on your skin.

SuChin Pak  55:44

I’ve been using it now for I would say since the end of last year, beginning of the new year. I use it at night, I use it right after my exfoliation. And so I have a clean slate, and I use this serum and the serum is, it’s almost like a light moisturizer. It’s a cream based serum, you know, which is nice because it’s for me my skin is always a bit dry. And when you have certain types of activated serums let’s say for example, I can get very sensitive around it. But this isn’t like that this is this is like the most beautiful creamy light moisturizer. And it is very concentrated but really gentle enough to use every day doesn’t feel like they’re like a harsh active is like eating away at your skin. And after I would say about six weeks of using it pretty consistently. What does my skin feel and look like number one, the minute you use it, you’ll notice right away an immediate result you’ll notice your skin is hydrated. Your skin is hydrated in the way that you know sometimes you put on a moisturizer and it just kind of like sits on top of your skin. My problem is that everything pills, I don’t know what it is about my skin may because it’s so dry. So for serums especially if I have that problem this is not it’s soaked right into your skin. So immediately you have that very moisturizing effect. But over time, I’ve noticed I’m using way less of my actives, because I’m getting such a brightening, bouncy, moisturizing effect from this serum. I mean, I just I can’t say enough about it. Like it really has like the hair growth serum from this company. It’s one of those things that you have to start using it, start using it take a before picture and then six weeks later or four weeks later, take an after picture because you really will notice a difference.

Kulap Vilaysack  57:43

Yes, so this serum is a little on the pricier end, but it’s one of those serums that you use for the lift and boosts, and it’s effective.
